I have just started looking for replacement mugs so can't report how that experience is yet. I have owned this item for about a year now. I have been happy with everything else about the machine. Otherwise I will probably use a regular mug and just use another travel mug when I want to take it in the car. The only thing I do not like about it is the fact that mugs are cheap. One of them fell apart a few months into use and now the remaining one has fallen apart.
It's a little more expensive per cup compared to a large coffee maker, but since I'm the only one in my household that drinks coffee it's ideal for me. Makes a very good cup of coffee, I have 2 of them, 1 for my office and 1 for home.
I use one of those during the week and it fits just fine under the drip lines. They are similar in volume, but also need to be similar in circumference at the rim. I have several other travel mugs that have screw tops or sliding covers to keep the coffee from splashing out.
I wanted something easy to clean, something that would make consistent coffee, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. When I'm at home, it's not a big deal, but for the 5 days a week, I'm running out of the house with my briefcase, jacket, umbrella, kids homework, and this open cup of coffee it's a pain in the rear. I researched all the various types of individual and "to go" coffee makers before deciding on the Melitta.
Fortunately the mugs are almost standard size. All in all, it's a great value and I would purchase it again. This machine met all those needs.
Pros: Easy to measure needed waterStandard cup and filter sizeFast brew timeAngled sipping lidConsistent, great tasting brewCons: The sipping lid does not closeDifficult to fill the water if unit is under a counterMy only gripe is that the lids that come with the mugs don't close.
I find it to be a very good product. Unit works quickly and there is no mess.
The wide basket of the Mr Coffee sometimes has water pouring over the edge of the filter where there are less grounds and the other times in the middle where you still don't get a consistant tasting coffee.Having two travel mugs is very convenient for two people or you can use just one. The difference is in the cone type filter basket which directs all of the hot water over all the grounds so you get a better cup of coffee. The mugs are well made and keep coffee very hot while on a road trip. I had one of these before but I had to replace it when I bumped it off the counter top. I instead bought a Mr Coffee four cup brewer which I tossed out because of poor coffee making.
